Floral fiesta in the north

Altar display by guest designer Hans Haverkamp was beautiful.

TRUE BEAUTY came to life on Saturday when the St Peter Parish Church held its annual flower festival on the grounds.

Under the theme Lord Of The Harvest, the 11th annual festival displayed some of the most unusual designs by seasoned designers who combined manmade materials with a variety
of imported and local flowers and fruits.

Participants Joan Linton, Carolyn Parris Boyce and Maurice Webster from Barbados, Tom Hodge and Bill Dixon from England were some of the creators of magnificent floral arrangements.

Organiser of this year’s event David Yearwood, said the festival which ends tomorrow, captures nature and all its beautiful colours.

Exotic designs

The nave of the church is adorned with creations which incorporates the use of wire, glass tubes, sea shells, palm leaves, berries, proteas flowers, cymbidium orchids, calla lillies, the traditional carnations, anthuriums, ginger lillies, helconias and others in carefully crafted exotic designs.

“The beautifully painted mesh wire and the glass creations are signs of what God has given us the talent to create and the different creations
they can be used in” Yearwood stated.

Sea shells, eggs shells and pods from the mahogany trees also
make for an interesting sea life display.

A displayed set within surrounding of a harp, cello, trumpets and the musical staff transform the area in to a harvest of music.

The event continues today with a holy confirmation, followed
by the festival luncheon, while Hans Haverkamp will be doing a flower arranging demonstration in the afternoon for a small fee.

The festival is
being held under the patronage of Barbados’ Honorary Consul for Germany Regina Sixt. (Nation News)
