Merger to bring ‘more jobs’

A MERGER BETWEEN business solutions firms, Barbados Business Machines Ltd. (BBM) and Advanced Business Services (ABS), is set to create more jobs for Barbadians in the near future.

The merged company, Productive Business Solutions, which resulted from an acquisition of BBM and ABS by Facey Commodity Company (Barbados) Limited was announced yesterday during a Press conference at Sandy Lane, St James.

Chief executive officer of the Facey Group, Paul Inniss, described the move as an “integration of two Facey-owned companies operated in Barbados to form a dynamic and stronger business entity in the face of the challenging market conditions”.

“The technology group under which the two entities fall will be called Productive Business Solutions,” he said at the forum where key staff members in the new company were introduced.

General manager of BBM, George Connolly, will take over as general manager of the new company that would officially launch its merged operations on January 1, 2010, even though the companies have already started operating as one.

The new company will trade under its new name, Productive Advanced Business Systems, after January 21, 2010.

According to Connolly, even though ten of the 90 workers between the two companies were lost in the merger process because of overlaps, the new company will provide greater employment opportunities in the future.

The company now has 82 staff and Connolly said: “We are actually going to add ten persons throughout the region and we are looking at some key roles that we need to fill here.”

He later told the MIDWEEK NATION: “In setting the strategic plan, we have to fill the gaps in competency that we need to deliver, particularly in areas of geographical information systems, programming, IT (Information Technology) solutions, IP (Internet Protocol) solutions, IP security and document management [such as] archiving and enterprise content management.

“You are going to see a lot of ads in the newspapers very soon.” (SR) (Nation News)
